{"id":15,"date":"2009-10-27T12:04:05","date_gmt":"2009-10-27T20:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/tmack\/wordpress\/?p=15"},"modified":"2009-10-27T12:09:34","modified_gmt":"2009-10-27T20:09:34","slug":"%e8%84%85%e3%81%8b%e3%81%99%e3%83%bb%e8%84%85%e3%81%99","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/tmack\/wordpress\/?p=15","title":{"rendered":"\u8105\u304b\u3059\u30fb\u8105\u3059"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here we have another ambiguous reading.\u00a0 With the <em>okurigana<\/em> of <em>kasu<\/em>, this can be read <em>odokasu<\/em> or <em>obiyakasu<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>When the word in context means &#8220;to frighten\/threaten (a person),&#8221; either reading is acceptable.\u00a0 When the meaning is &#8220;to threaten (something other than a person)&#8221; &#8212; that is, when it used is abstractly &#8212; it is read <em>obiyakasu<\/em>. As a general rule, when what is either threatening or being threatened is not a person, then <em>obiyakasu<\/em> is used.<\/p>\n<p>Consider these two examples:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u718a\u3082\u3044\u305f\u305a\u3089\u306b\u4eba\u3092<strong>\u304a\u3073\u3084\u304b\u3059<\/strong>\u305f\u3081\u306b\u51fa\u3066\u6765\u305f\u306e\u3067\u306f\u306a\u3044\u3002<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">\u5ca1\u672c\u7dba\u5802\u3001\u300c\u534a\u4e03\u6355\u7269\u5e33\u30fb\u718a\u306e\u6b7b\u9ab8\u300d<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;\u9006\u306b\u52e4\u52b4\u5a66\u4eba\u306e\u751f\u6d3b\u5b89\u5b9a\u3092<strong>\u304a\u3073\u3084\u304b\u3059<\/strong>\u3053\u3068\u306b\u3082\u306a\u3063\u3066\u6765\u308b\u306e\u3067\u3042\u308b\u3002<\/p>\n<p align=\"right\">\u5bae\u672c\u767e\u5408\u5b50\u3001\u300c\u3044\u306e\u3061\u306e\u4f7f\u308f\u308c\u304b\u305f\u300d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When the meaning is &#8220;to surprise (a person),&#8221; the reading is <em>odokasu<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As for the reading when the only <em>okurigana<\/em> is <em>su<\/em>, although there is an archaic <em>obiyasu<\/em>, it will in most cases be read <em>odosu<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here we have another ambiguous reading.\u00a0 With the okurigana of kasu, this can be read odokasu or obiyakasu.
