Portugal

Lisboa, Sintra, Belem

The trip to Portugal was another of those all-nighters: 1am to 9 on the bus (groan). But those who were exhausted hit the sack for a few hours and the rest of us got in a full day of touring Lisbon. For the 3rd time I couldn't get into the National Geographic Society Museum, but three of us went to the Museu dos Azulejos (Tile Museum) which was great. Students went off in different directions in small groups, so everyone got to see what they were most interested in. We know Ben started plotting his PORTO campaign right from the start.

After another full day in Lisbon, we headed to Sintra, always a favorite. After visiting the Palácio Nacional, everyone hiked or took a bus or taxi up to the Castelo dos Mouros. The view is magnificent ('though better on a clear day). Amber and Laura and the girls who seem to be running uphill (!) took the hard way

Our last day we headed for Belem, visiting the Museu dos Coches, the Monasteiro dos Jeronimos, the torre de Belém, Monumento a los Descobridores, Museu da Marinha, etc. My photos are all from the Monastery.
First the Church and then the Claustro of the Monastery.

Cleaned the stone in 2001 the monastery is magnificent. We enjoyed having Zach Mazzonzini's folks with us (I think that's they off in the left corner).
