Political Psychology of Conflict and Cooperation

Syllabus

Course description

How can we use psychology to better explain the sources of conflict and cooperation international politics? To address this question, we will apply different social psychological theories to politics. For example, we will examine cognitive and motivated biases, prospect theory, social identity theory, and the relationship between emotion and rationality. We will also address the problems and opportunities of intergroup relations, discrimination, altruism, and conclude be examining recent efforts to extend psychology to economics.
