CONSUMERS
CONSUMERS
A consumer is an individual or household that purchases and uses goods sold by corporations or organizations. In this case, consumers represent members of the public that choose which products to buy. The buying power of consumers affects governmental and corporate policy, and how foods are developed, grown, and marketed.
Federal Agencies such as the FDA (Food and Drug Agency) and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) work to protect the consumer or general public by regulating the safety of the products we consume. Differing opinions exist regarding whether GMO products are safe for consumption, and at this time consumers have the power to chose whether or not they will personally take this risk. As representatives of your player, your group must research the potential effects GMO consumption might have on consumer health, and how consumers inform themselves in order to make their own purchasing choices. Consider how the proposed No GMO Bill would affect consumers’ ability to choose, and how it would affect the level of health risk associated with consumption of food products.
