Martin Gunn MBChB FRANZCR FASER,

Radiologist and Chief Medical Officer, Canopy Healthcare Group, Auckland New Zealand

OVERVIEW OF CURRENT ACTIVITIES

I am currently the Chief Medical Officer and a radiologist at Canopy Healthcare Group, a private practice radiology and oncology group headquartered in Auckland New Zealand.  Canopy Healthcare Group includes Canopy Imaging (the second-largest private radiology group in New Zealand with clinics in the North Island), Canopy Cancer Care (the largest private oncology group in New Zealand) and iMix (a chemotherapy / immunotherapy compounding and supply company).  In my CMO role, I oversee clinical aspects in the group and report to the Canopy Healthcare Board.  I am a subspecialist radiologist in body/abdominal imaging and emergency radiology.

I have a background as a clinician-scientist and clinical leader.  In my clinical role, I interpret CT, MRI, ultrasound, and radiographs of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis, with a focus on abdominal CT and MRI.  In addition to my clinical work, I was Professor and Vice Chair of the Radiology Department at UW Medicine in Seattle, WA, USA, responsible for Imaging Informatics, Speciality Chief Medical Information Officer for UW Medicine for Imaging Informatics, Co-Chair of the Radiology Critical Results Subcommittee, and member of numerous UW Medicine governance committees.  I have had leadership roles in the Radiological Society of North America and the American Society of Emergency Radiology. I am the immediate past-Chair of the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), Chair of the Diagnostic Imaging Association of New Zealand, and I am a member of the Digital Health in Clinical Radiology Committee and iRefer (Clinical Decision Support) Governance Committee.

I dedicate a small percentage of my time to an active research programme focused on improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of radiological services, which includes co-Principal Investigator for a USD$3m 2021-2025 grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) which uses deep learning techniques to evaluate the downstream costs and clinical impacts of imaging incidentalomas.  I continue to have a faculty position (Affiliate Professor) at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, USA.  I have completed the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in a 1-year “Stanford LEAD” leadership programme.
