Isobaric Solid-state Foaming of Advanced Materials

Team Members: Keith Neale, Nathan DeRuyter, Shaunak Deshpande

Past Members: René Arvizu, Luke Haunreiter

Primary Goals: Fabrication of thermoplastic nano-porous polymer sheets through a solid-state foaming process, without the ubiquitous solid surface layer (“skin”) characteristic of this process. The elimination of said skin allows access to the internal cellular structure of these sheet materials.

Broader Impacts: Nano-porous sheets have direct applications towards membrane technology, specifically towards filtration and energy storage. The sustainable and green nature of this fabrication process circumvents the toxic byproducts resulting from many traditional chemical synthesis techniques.

ISoFoAM Isobaric Solid-state Foaming of Advanced Materials Team Members: Keith Neale, Nathan DeRuyter, Shaunak Deshpande Past Members: René Arvizu, Luke
