Conference Fee: 

General: US$50; Graduate students: US$30 (US$40 and US$20 respectively if paid before 31 May, 2002). The registration fees for participants from developing countries may be waived upon request and approval.

Economists, policy makers, and practitioners are invited to submit papers on Korea, Asia-Pacific, and the world economy. Both theoretical and empirical papers are welcome. Papers in the following areas are especially sought:

  • Korean economy and its foreign trade

  • the new multilateral round of the WTO and related trade issues

  • inter-East-Asia and inter-Korea economic relations and cooperation

  • Asian crisis: causes, impacts, and recovery

  • trade liberalization and regionalism in East Asia

  • China’s Accession to the WTO and East Asia

If interested, please send a draft of a paper or an extended abstract 500+ words long, in English, with your name, affiliation, academic position, mail and e-mail addresses, and phone and fax numbers, by 30 April 2002 to (submission via e-mail is preferred):

Please indicate in your letter if your paper had been presented in another conference or has been accepted for publication. If a paper is accepted, its completed version for presentation is due 20 June 2002.

Discussants and Chairs: People interested in discussing a paper and/or chairing a session should contact us.

Publication: All presenters will be invited (but not obligated) to submit their presented papers for publication in a special issue of the Journal of the Korean Economy, the English journal of the Association of the Korean Economic Studies.

Session Organizing: Those interested in organizing a session should send us a proposal no later than 30 April 2002. The proposal must include an overview statement, a short synopsis of each presentation, and a signed statement from each participant confirming agreement to participate. The fee for the organizer will be waived.

Young scholar sessions: There will be a separate workshop for young scholars (graduate students at their advanced dissertation stages). Young scholars from the developing countries may apply for travel support.

Requests for conference fee waiver and travel and accommodation subsidy should be sent us no later than 30 April 2002.
