Our research focuses on how listeners of all ages understand speech, learn language, and read.

Some of our current projects include:

Computerized Training for to Improve Language and Literacy Outcomes

We are exploring how computer-based training in listening skills could improve language and literacy performance. Children who are typically developing, or who are at risk for a language or reading difficulty are eligible to participate.

REACH: Reading Acquisition in Children with Hearing Loss

Children with hearing loss have lower literacy rates than children with normal hearing. In this study, we are investigating how pre-reading skills develop in children with and without hearing loss. Children in this study are given assessments of their pre-reading skills four times over two years.

Aging Effects on Speech Understanding

Difficulty understanding what people are saying is a common complaint among older adults. In this set of studies, we are looking to learn more about how listeners of all ages understand speech. These experiments are short, about one or two hours, and can be completed online.
