We tackle questions such as how microbial cell surfaces influence the environment and cellular processes, as well as the energy requirements of extremophiles for their metabolic activities. To achieve this, we employ a blend of interdisciplinary methods, including microbiology, low-temperature aqueous geochemistry, physical chemistry, and thermodynamic modeling. Ultimately, our goal is to quantitatively understand the geochemical processes of microbial life.

Recent Work

Drew Gorman-Lewis (he/him) is a geomicrobiologist in the department of Earth and Space Sciences department at the University of Washington.

Contact: dgormanl@uw.edu

Our research interests revolve around investigating the intricate geochemical interactions of microbes.
