Comments and Reminders about Term Projects (posted 30 May)
If you want to swap positions in the schedule for presentation shown above,
just
e-mail me
(dbp@uw.edu)
about the new order.
Plan on an 8 minute talk with 2 minutes for questions/comments
(please time your talks so that they don't go over 8 minutes).
If you plan to use overheads for your presentation,
please e-mail them to me in the form of a PDF file
by noon, Friday, June 1, or by 8AM, Thursday, June 7
(preferably the night before if possible)
so that I can load them onto my computer (PowerPoint is problematic).
Please attend all presentations if at all possible - past experience says
this will be the best part of the course.
Your written report is due 2PM on 8 June.
Please consult the Term Project
page for information about
- how to get a paper copy of your written project to me by 2PM on 8 June;
- sending me a PDF version of your project; and
- the format for the paper (from 5 to (an upper limit of) 10 double-spaced single-column pages;
9 point font is recommended; figures don't count toward the limit,
but please keep the number of figures within reason).
Finally I will bring in home-made treats for your comsumption
(some sort of pastries, but no liquids,
so, if you want something more than water to go along with the treats,
please bring it along).
Exam on Friday, May 25th (posted 11 May)
As noted in the Overview page,
there will be a 50 minute exam on Friday, May 25th, starting at 12:30PM.
The exam is closed-book, and
no electronic devices of any sort are allowed;
however, you may bring a `crib sheet':
a single sheet of standard 8.5 by 11 inch paper
on which you can write anything you so desire
(you may use both sides of the paper).
The exam will be based on the material covered in
- parts 1 to 10 of the Lecture Overheads;
- part 11, but just overheads XI-1 up to XI-127; and
- the seven homework assignments
(note in particular that the self-graded problems in these assignments
might inspire questions on the exam).
The format for this exam will be similar to the one I gave two years ago
(click here to access it).
As you can see, there will be space on the exam for you to write your answers,
so you need only bring a pencil (and an eraser if you feel you might need one).
