Data Sheet for "A Penny Saved is a Penny Heard".

Collect American pennies with different dates - pennies from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s are fine. Drop each penny one-by-one and note how it sounds. If the penny sounds "dull" and "tinny," then it is probably new. If the penny "rings" and has a more "full" sound, it is probably old. Print out this page and use the chart to record your observations. Put a "N" below the dates of pennies that sound new. Put an "O" below the dates of pennies that sound old. Do you see a pattern? When did the "old" pennies start sounding "new?" Check your results with other people.
