= ION CHANNEL - Ion channels
are found within the membrane of a nerve cell. These channels allow the
"ions" (charged particles like sodium and potassium) to pass through the
cell membrane. These channels are specific for different ions and open
and close depending on electrical, mechanical or chemical signals.
The patch clamp is a method to
record the activity of a single ion channel.
