In just a couple days I am leaving home to spend two months as a Visiting Fellow at the Humanities Research Centre at Australian National University in Canberra. I’ll be giving a public lecture at ANU on 11 August titled “Conceptual Writing: Poetry as Information Art”; I’ll also be giving talks at the University of Sydney (10 September) and at Melbourne University (TBD).

I’ve just received news that I’ve been elected to the Modern Language Association’s Poetry Division Executive Committee. It’s a five year term. So I’ll be helping to plan the division’s panels at the MLA conventions 2015-2019. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see featured at a future MLA!

Canberra Here I Come

I’ve received exciting news: the Humanities Research Centre at Australian National University has selected me as a Visiting Fellow for 2014. I’ll be spending next July and August in Canberra, and I’ll be participating in workshops and other activities related to the HRC’s annual theme, “Now Showing: Cultures, Judgments, and Research on the Digital Screen.”

I’d like to announce the publication of my new book, Phenomenal Reading: Essays in Modern and Contemporary Poetics. It’s available now from the University of Alabama Press in paperback. Winner of the press’s Elizabeth Agee Prize for outstanding American literary scholarship, the book reprints eleven previously published essays on figures such as Carl Sandburg, Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, Robert Duncan, John Ashbery, Reginald Shepherd, and Rosmarie Waldrop. There is also a new twelfth chapter (on abecedaries!) and an original preface. Fun for all!
