Today we went to St. Peters. St. Peters is the house of the Pope. It looked like a huge dome with a house shaped bottom. I saw columns in the courtyard. There were saints on the columns. We went inside and got tickets and climbed up all 528 steps to the very top of the dome. I saw a huge garden with a really cool shield made out of flowers. Then we went back down into the church. I saw lots of statues. I touched St. Peter’s toe. It was shiny because people have been touching it for 20 centuries. I stood on the very spot where the holy roman emperors were crowned. It was made out of red granite stone and it was a circle.

Today I went to the Church of Ara Coeli by climbing 128 steps. I count a lot of things in Rome like steps. I liked it because of the marble tombs in the floor of the church. They looked like statues but made into the ground. Next I walked out of the church and took an elevator to the top of the Vittorio Emanuele II monument. I saw St. Peter’s and the Pantheon, which looks like a bowl upside down from above. I walked to the Pallatine hill. It was a bunch of old ruins.

Today we went back to the Pantheon. It was a short walk. The Pantheon was pretty cool. Then we went to the art store, and I got lots of paints. We went to a museum. It had lots of paintings. One of them was the painting of King Herod’s warriors killing babies. It was sad. In the museum, there was a statue that looked big but it was actually small. My dad told me it was a trick with perspective. I had my favorite lunch at Aristo Campo, fried chicken with pesto on a thick bread.

The cathedral in Siena
|
This weekend we went to Siena. We stayed in Siena for three days, and saw a lot of churches and buildings. The church in Siena was only black and white. The black meant evil and the white meant kindness. In Siena what I liked to most was playing in the campo. The campo was a huge a bowl. We played ball tag with my friend Jackson and Maeve and George and two Italian kids.
We also went to Pienza. There were lots of fountains. I had a huge bowl of pesto. I put balsamic vinegar on my pesto and all the Italian waiters couldn’t believe it.
