A downloadable zipfile includes materials for generating experimental scripts and analyzing the resulting data, described in the next two paragraphs.

The Generic IAT permits creation of a standard format IAT using MS Word's mail merge capability. The main intended purpose of this software is to permit quick construction of IATs for demonstration on one's self. The generic IAT operates with Inquisit laboratory software (see below about obtaining a free, fully operational, downloadable demo copy of Inquisit). No programing knowledge of Inquisit is required, although knowledge of Inquisit will be needed to modify the software as may be desired for various purposes. Use of the script-generation software requires entry of category labels and stimulus items into a Word data .doc, followed by use of Word's Mail Merge capability.

SPSS syntax for computing IAT measures using the improved scoring algorithm is provided with additional mergeable Word .doc files in the downloadable zipfile. The published article (from JPSP, 2003) that describes the improved algorithm is also downloadable on this page.

The Generic Balanced Identity Design is similar in function to the Generic IAT, but creates a set of 3 related IATs, using the 3 combinations of a self-other contrast, a social category (e.g., male-female) contrast, and an attribute (e.g., warm-strong) contrast. It also uses MS Word's mail merge capability in combination with Inquisit. No programing knowledge of Inquisit is required. Unzip this download and find instructions in 'README.txt'. Note that this syntax has not been updated since 2002.

Inquisit is useful for modifying and extending these programs -- e.g., for combining the IAT with a wide variety of other laboratory procedures. Inquisit runs under Windows operating systems. A fully functioning demonstration version of Inquisit is downloadable free via Millisecond Software's website, at http://millisecond.com. Inquisit can support script programing in several non-English languages (including Japanese, Korean, and Polish). Inquisit is a commercial product. If it is used on a sustained basis, a suitable license should be purchased from Millisecond Software.

FIAT23.exe is Shelly Farnham's Windows-based progam that is adaptable to run various IATs accompanied by explicit measures. Requires extremely little programming ability from the user. Shelly is no longer actively supporting this program, but she can be contacted at shelly@hive-mind.com in case of emergency.
