Course Description:
CEE 459 Advanced Mechanics of Materials (3)
This is a second course in mechanics of materials, which covers topics of importance in structural engineering that are not usually covered in a first course, and which prepare also for graduate study. Topics are chosen from: elements of elasticity with application to basic problems in plane stress, bending and torsion of beams, thermal stresses, and stress concentration; asymmetric bending of beams, flexural shear deformation, torsion of thin-walled beams of open and closed cross sections, and shear center; curved beams; energy methods; beams on elastic foundations; plate bending.
