PHIL 350A: Homework Assignment #2 (10 Points).
To receive full credit for this assignment, you must be in class on the day it is due or have an excused absence. This assignment has two parts:
(1) Philosophical Motivation (to be posted on Peer Review by 9 am on Tuesday, Oct. 17). Use one paragraph to explain the difference between foundationalism and coherentism about empirical justification. Then in one page or less, explain the most compelling motivation for being a foundationalist about empirical justification and the most compelling motivation for being a coherentist about empirical justification. If you are successful, the reader should be able to feel the philosophical allure of each kind of theory.
(2) Vote (due via email by 1 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 17). Every class member should read all the postings and vote via email for the posting that does the best job of explaining the motivation for foundationalism and for coherentism.
