Reading Questions 5—Kuhlthau Information Search Process (ISP)

 

 

 

When reading Kuhlthau’s article you want to think about the following issues:

 

 

o       Make sure you can explain the ISP model.

 

o       To which basic concepts introduced in class is it most relevant?

 

o       Which new basic concepts does it introduce?

 

o       How do these new concepts relate to the ones we have already discussed?

 

o       How would the ISP model explain the difference between:

    • Information want
    • Information demand
    • Information need

 

o       How does the ISP model addresses:

    • Information searching
    • Information surfing
    • Information encountering

 

o       Could any of the ISP stages be considered as information use? Why?

 

o       What are the implications of the ISP model to system design?
