Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing

Positions Open

The Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing Lab currently has the following positions open. To apply please send resume to Prof. Wei Li at weiwli@u.washington.edu.

1) A Research Assistant in the area of biomaterials. We are looking for a graduate student (PhD or MS) to continue the research on selective ultrasonic foaming (SUF) process. The SUF process has been developed in our lab. We are now in the process of refining it and applying it to different materials. Students who are interested in biomaterials processing, biocompatibility studies, polymer, and/or ultrasound are encouraged to apply.

2) A Research Assistant in the area of multifunctional nanocomposites. We are looking for a graduate student (PhD student preferred) to conduct research in polymer nanocomposites foams. Carbon nano tubes (CNT) and carbon nano fibers (CNF) will be added in high performance polymer matrices. We are studying the nucleation and foaming characteristics of these nanocomposites. We will also study the structure-property relationship of the foamed nanocomposite materials. Knowledge of polymer processing, nano additives, and foams will be desirable. Students interested in nanotechnology and nanomanufacturing are encouraged to apply.

3) A Post Doctoral Research Associate in the area of tissue engineering. We are working on a project for drug discovery and development. The project involves polymeric device fabrication, biocompatibility, drug dose response, and other cell-related studies. A background in bioengineering/tissue engineering or molecular biology, with experience in cell culture, cell migration assays, MTT assay, drug dose response curve analysis, confocal microscopy and image analysis, is desired. The initial appointment of this position is one year with possible extension. Interested individuals are encouraged to send in a representative publication with the application.
