MAKE-UP WORK

Each unit of make-up consists of one of the lessons described below. How many units you owe depends on your own particular record.

Go to    http://illuminations.nctm.org  -- the home page for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Click on Lessons

Click on Geometry

YouÕll get a list of nifty lessons, with the level listed on the right. Cruise around them for a bit and admire.

Assignment: Do one of the lessons.  By doing I mean that you should print out all of the sheets that can be printed (student and teacher both) and answer all of the questions. If there is an on-line activity you should actually do it, not just figure out what it would do if you did.

Then write a brief (one page or less) reflection on the lesson. Did it teach you anything? Was it fun to do? If you had a chance to teach it to some kids (a few or a class) do you think they would enjoy it.

Since the lessons vary a lot, I have chosen a list that I would consider worthwhile:

            Cubes Everywhere

Corner to corner

Covering the Plane with Reptiles

Polygon Capture (find someone to play the game with)

Circle Packing

Reflect on This

If you are attracted to one of the others, e-mail me and we can negotiate!
