Dr. Quang is a board certified radiation oncologist who specializes in the treatment of head and neck cancer, lung cancer, and gastrointestinal malignancies. He routinely uses total body irradiation as a conditioning regimen for patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. He also treats lymphomas, melanoma, breast cancer, sarcomas, intracranial, genitourinary and gynecologic malignancies. His broad research interests include conducting clinical trials and enrolling patients in cooperative groups, such as the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG). His focused research interests are in intra- and inter-fractional organ motion, image-guided radiotherapy, aperture modulated arc therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, nanoparticle thermotherapy, and radioimmunotherapy. He is an active member of the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise in Radiation Oncology (IHE-RO) planning committee which addresses ways to improve the utilization of computer systems for information sharing, workflow, and patient care.
He has been a reviewer for publications including the American Journal of Clinical Oncology and Cancer Biotherapy and Radiopharmaceuticals. Dr. Quang is a facilitator for weekly resident morning case conferences at the University of Washington and is a mentor for students in the Medical Student Research Training Program (MSRTP) working on multiple research projects. He also serves as a Visiting Lecturer teaching clinical oncology to radiation therapy students at the Bellevue Community College.He became a doctor and specialized in oncology because he likes to take care of people at a difficult and transitional time in their lives. In his practice, Dr. Quang's approach is not only to address a patient’s physical health, but also to take care of his or her mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
He believes that advances in technology and medical therapeutics coupled with a physician’s intellect, interest in research, sense of social justice, and compassion will improve the quality of life of patients afflicted with cancer and will hopefully eradicate this disease. He has spent his free time taking care of the indigent by staffing free clinics, HIV and cancer screening programs including the Mazzoni Clinic, Paul Hom Asian Clinic, and St. Rita's Free Clinic.
