We are a research group on computational materials science and theoretical condensed matter physics at the Department of Materials Science & Engineering of the University of Washington. We use quantum physics, machine learning and AI, and high-performance parallel computing to understand condensed matter systems and predict materials properties. Our primary focus is on the electronic structures, excited-state properties, and light-matter interactions of one- and two-dimensional material systems.

Outreach Program – STEM Pals

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (a.k.a. STEM) is crucial to the functioning of today’s society. We aim to work on this issue by developing a rigorous outreach and educational program that will facilitate participation from high schools in WA.

The STEM-Pals program was founded by Tharindu Fernando, a graduate student in our research group.
