Introduction

In the pages which follow I've published selected short extracts from various pieces of my writing - some of which are intended to support classes I teach. They represent examples of the theoretical and applied issues which concern me in my academic work and more generally.

Listing of recent abstracts

In addition to these longer extracts (left), I also maintain a listing of abstracts of externally published articles, chapters, papers and other pieces. These are currently recorded as follows:

  • language and the internet
  • homophobic pejoratives
  • communication awareness
  • teenagers' social-type labelling and crowds
  • young people's ideas about culture
  • intercultural awareness and education
  • host-tourist perceptions of postcards
  • snapshot of teenagers' peer orientations
  • young people and new communication technologies
  • teenagers in and on communication
  • mapping the sociolinguistics of text-messaging
  • language ecologies in tourism
  • representation of local languages in holiday programmes
  • host-tourist roles in holiday programmes
  • host-tourist postcard 'communication'
  • global communication & inflight magazines
  • autobiography and teaching about difference
