Study Guides

The following are study guides to be used in conjunction with the readings, lectures and section discussions.  It is meant to facilitate the learning process, not substitute for it.  Some of the terms and questions presented in this study guide will not be discussed directly in class; they can only be found in the readings.  You are still responsible for terms and questions not discussed in class.  There are several levels of questions on these study guides.  Some are basic questions that ask you to identify the main thesis a reading.  Other questions do not necessarily have answers that can be found in the readings or from lectures.  These questions are meant to stimulate thought and debate.  These questions also make great conversation topics at cocktail parties and coffee shops.

You should download and read these study guides prior to reading the textbooks they cover or before the material is covered in class.  Due to departmental budget constraints, we have been asked to minimize the amount of photocopying we do for classes.  There will NOT be any hard copies of these study guides printed out.

The study guides are in pdf format (Adobe Acrobat).  Adobe provides free Acrobat readers at this site.  Click the "get Acrobat reader" button and follow instructions.  Last year, the computers in many of the UW computer labs had difficulty with the button technology that I used to hotlink my files.  If the button on the right does not work, simply click the word "study guide" next to the button.
