Long March to Lugu Lake
with James Tweedie
This video documents the “women’s section” of a traveling art project, Long March: A Walking Visual Display. Curators brought together American feminist artist Judy Chicago and Chinese counterparts to create an art exhibit in a village on Lugu Lake. At this location in rural Yunnan, home to the Mosuo, a matrilineal ethnic minority, and new site of “feminist tourism,” the proposed collaboration became a protracted struggle over contending visions of feminist politics and aesthetics. In post-production.
