Assignments ASSIGNMENT ONE: Imagine that you and a friend have free round-trip tickets to anywhere in Asia, a check for $1000 each, and a week off from school. Take a look at the Lonely Planet guide, other guidebooks, and the web. Then plan your ideal fantasy trip. Where would you go? Where would you stay? What would you do with your time? What would you eat? You may only spend $1000. You should turn in a few paragraphs explaining the reasons for your choices, outlining your itinerary, with a one-page budget. Include the resources you consulted. The assignment will be graded based on thoroughness and feasibility.DUE: Tuesday, 1/11 CLASS FACILITATION: Each of you will be expected to act as facilitator to one class during the semester. I will circulate a sign-up sheet at the beginning of the second week, during which time you can choose the class you want to facilitate. For the class that you are facilitating, you will be expected to prepare the readings well enough to lead discussion on them and to generate questions that you will post one day in advance on the on-line class EPost discussion board. When facilitating, please bring at least one visual and one other source– newspaper, magazine, video clip, etc. – and relate it to class discussion. SIGN UP: Tuesday, 1/11 JOURNAL: A one to two-page journal entry is expected each week unless otherwise noted. Within your journal entries you may summarize the readings for the day, explore any of the issues of our assignments in detail, or explore your own responses to the readings. Journals are graded only as S or N (“submitted” or “not”), and you are not expected to spend undue amounts of time on the journals. Submitting all journals will yield a 100% for that portion of your grade. Generally, late journals will not be accepted. Students are encouraged to post their journal entries on the on-line class EPost discussion board as a further means of exchanging ideas and collectively reflecting upon issues raised in class. DUE: Every Thursday, except for 2/3 and 3/10. |
