Approximately every weak there will be HW assignments.

Grading: There will be no exams. You will be judged by your HW.

Topics to be covered:

<>1.  Fermi liquid. Electon-phonon interaction. Single particle theory of metals.
Linear response. 
Metals in quantised magnetic field.  de Haas-van Alphen,
Shubnikov-De Haas, and integer quantum Hall effects.

2. Magnetism. Ferromagnets, antiferromagnets. Quantum magnets. NMR in solids in liquids.

3. Conventional microscopic theory of superconductivity (BCS),  HTC.

4.  Theory of semicondutors. Band structures.  Impurities in semiconductors, doping, metal-insulator
transition, hopping conductivity.  Optics of semiconductors,  excitons, polarons, polaritons.
If time permits, applications of group theory.

5. If time permits, mesoscopic physics.
