Sharon Hargus

Professor, Department of Linguistics, University of Washington

I have taught at UW since 1986. My research interests lie in phonological theory, experimental/laboratory phonology, and the phonology-morphology interface. I am currently involved in projects related to the documentation of four Native American (or First Nations) languages: Sahaptin (Yakima dialect) (spoken in Washington state), Deg Xinag (spoken in Alaska), Kwadacha (Ft. Ware) Sekani (Tsek'ene), and Witsuwit'en (spoken in British Columbia).

Along with Richard Ladner, Computer Science and Engineering, I have worked to establish an ASL program at UW. In 2007-8, ASL 101-102-103 will be offered. We are pleased that Lance Forshay will teach these classes and run the ASL program at UW.
