Country Information:

EIU Online - Search all the various databases in EIU Online for country and business analysis.  Each of those databases, Country Report, Country Profile, and Country Commerce contains different pieces of information about the country.  Viewswire provides articles on companies, industries, and countries with news on events, situations and happenings that affect the economy and businesses around the world.

Europa World - Covers political, social and economic information about countries.  Includes country maps and a directory of political and business organizations in each country.

International Financial Statistics Online - The international Monetary Fund's International Financial Statistics database is a standard source of international statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance.  It reports, for most countries of the world, current data needed in the analysis of problems of international payments, inflation, deflation, exchange rates, international liquidity, money and banking, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government accounts, and national accounts.  Information is presented in country tables and in tables of area and world aggregates.

World Competitiveness Online - The World Competitiveness yearbook analyzes and ranks the ability of nations to create and maintain an environment that sustains the competitiveness of enterprises.  World Competitiveness Online provides access to the entire WCY database including 5 year time series.

World Telecommunication Indicators - International Telecommunication Union database of telecommunications data, country by country, with data from the Yearbook of Statistics and from the World Telecommunicatgions Development Report.  (Part of the UW Libraries CD-ROM Network.  Can be accessed only in the UW Libraries, and not remotely)

China Data Online - Comprehensive database focusing on economic statistics of China arranged by regions and categories.  Includes monthly and yearly reports on China's macroeconomic development, statistical databases on China's population and economy at the county and city level, and financial indicators of more than 568 industrial branches.

Comtrade - The Comtrade database is a product of the United Nations Statistics Division and is the most comprehensive source for world trade data.  Every year between 120 to 140 countries or areas report their merchandise trade statistics to the United Nations covering as much as 95% of world trade.   Each of these countries report the trade by commodity and trading partner.  Site license allows multiple users access.  The access to UN Comtrade is IP controlled.  You can download an unlimited number of records.  You have two following technical restrictions: a) maximum six queries per minute b) download of no more than 150,000 records per query.

CIA World Factbook -  Issued  annually by the US Cental Intelligence Agency.  Choose your country of interest.  Category content of each country includes an introduction, geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues.

Doing Business in ... - Doing business in are guides of doing business in various countries written by expert teams from the World Bank Organization.   Look for the Doing Business guide for your country of choice.

United States Department of State - Under the Countries tab, look for information on the country/countries,  and a list of key State Department Contacts.

United States Export.Gov - Quoting from the site, "Export.gov brings together resources from across the U.S. government to assist American businesses in planning their international sales strategies to succeed in today's global marketplace".   In the left column under "Find Opportunities", check out Market Research. Find the Market Research Library and search for reports and guides on the country/countries.

World Bank GDF Online - Statistical data from the World Bank for over 200 debt and financial flows indicators for 138 countries that report public and publicly-guaranteed debt to the World Bank. Data is from 1970 to 2011, where available. Web version of the annual Global Development Finance.

World Bank WDI Online - Statistical data from the World Bank for over 550 development indicators and time series data from 1960-2000 for over 200 countries and 18 country groups. Data includes social, economic, financial, natural resources, and environmental indicators. Web version of World Development Indicators.

USITC Tariff Database and Related Products - Interactive database is expressed in terms of the 2008 Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS). Tariffs are provided at the tariff-line (8-digit HTS item) level.

Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States - Contains chapter-by-chapter listing of the harmonized tariff schedule and general notes.

Transparency International - This is a politically non-partisan organization whose mission is to lead the fight against corruption.  The global network consists of many national chapters, and chapter in formation.  Look for tools on it's website such as it's surveys, indices, and research.  It is the creator of the Corruption Perceptions Index.

Global Corruption Report - Published annually by Transparency International each year it focuses on a theme related to corruption.  In 2007 the theme is judiciary corruption.   In part 2 of the publication, it reports on selected countries where judicial corruption is systemic.  Shelved in Foster Reference under JF 1081 G 56.

United Nations Development Programme - From it's own website, it states "UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners."

Human Development Reports - From UNDP, the site offers many pieces of information, reports, and statistics about human development all over the world.  Check items under each tab.  For example you will find explanation about several indices including the HDI (Human development Index) under the "HUMAN DEVELOPMENT" tab.  For data look under the "STATISTICS" tab, etc.

Company Information:

Hoover's Online - Source for detailed company information, company histories, lists of competitors, financials and news, for both public and private companies.  Also includes industry profiles and comparisons.

Investext - Investext contains indexing and the fulltext of company and industry research reports prepared by leading Wall Street firms, as well as regional and international brokerage and financial firms.

Kompass - Directory information for 1.6 million companies in more than 70 countries, with indexes for company products and services, containing 23 million product and service references, and 500,000 trademarks and brand names.

Mergent Online - Online access to the print edition of the Mergent Manuals, with extensive information on U.S. and international public companies, including financials, stock, properties, joint ventures, subsidiaries, S.E.C. filings, etc.

Mint Global - MintGlobal is a business and financial database from Bureau Van Dijk.  The four parts are labelled Companies, News, Market Research and Original Documents.  The Companies section contains complete financial statement and balance sheet information going back 5 years from public companies throughout countries of the world.  This section also provides brief information of some private companies worldwide.  The News section contains full text articles from various sources such as Dow Jones, Financial Times, Reuters, and others.  Market Research has fulltext market research reports of various industries from Datamonitor.  Original Documents is made up of company annual reports and filings to the securities regulatory authorities of countries where the companies are heaquartered geographically.

ReferenceUSA - Directory information for over fourteen million public and private companies in the U.S. and over 1.5 million companies in Canada, along with information about several hundred U.S. residents.  Companies can be searched for by name, business activity, size, location, etc.

ThomasNet - Web-based access to a directory of hundreds of thousands of products and services in the U.S. and Canada; online version of the print edition of the Thomas Register.

Associations Unlimited - Database of national, state, regional and international trade and professional organizations and non-profit membership organizations.

Forrester - Provides reports on the effects of technology change on businesses, consumers, and society, and analyzes such technology areas as new media, computing, software, networking, telecommunications, and the internet.

Gartner Research -  Provides in-depth analysis and market intelligence for the information technology industry, covering the full range of products and technologies associated with computer hardware, software, communications products, financial services, electronic business, and healthcare application software worldwide.

InfoTech Trends - InfoTech Trends indexes statistics and forecasts published in computer and telecommunication trade publications.

MarketResearch.com Academic - Provides market research reports covering many different industries and market sectors.

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage - You can find many types of S&P fulltext publications in S&P NetAdvantage.  For industry information, look for the Industries tab at the top of the page.  When the tab is selected, it will lead you to the industry surveys.  Be sure to also look at the left margin for "Global Industry Surveys".

International Marketing Data and Statistics - Published by Euromonitor International the annual publication lists organizations that provide information, and key economic, business, and consumer statistics from countires of the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.  Indicators are shown in table format allowing quick comparative analysis from the list of countries over a given time span.  Shelved in Foster Reference under  HA 42 I56 2008.
