Course Description

Wherever the land meets the water is a place rich in biological diversity and natural resources.  Accordingly, the coastal zone is a magnet for people and serves as the frontline of human/nature interactions.  This course focuses on the processes responsible for the form and evolution of the coastal zone and the methods used to study those processes.  We will also investigate the unique features, hazards, and environmental problems of coastal ecosystems worldwide and evaluate the ramifications for human security and prosperity as we love the coast to death.  Special emphasis will be placed on characterizing the nature and future of Puget Sound.  More specific objectives for student learning and skill development are listed in the course syllabus.
