“Cell Phone Etiquette” by
Chelsea Mitchell:
Nowadays it appears
everyone is fully equipped with a cell phone.
Among our readers, 84 percent own a cell phone! Therefore, cell phone users have to,
consciously, become aware of their environment and practice proper cellular
etiquette. Stop noise pollution!
The “DOs
and DON’Ts” of cell phone etiquette:
DO turn the ringer volume
down or switch it to vibrate when riding public transportation.
Also
try to avoid extensively long conversations about how your boyfriend prepares
dinner for you every night.
DO turn off your phone in
the movie theater and, if it does ring, DON’T precede to
answer
it. This also applies to plays, sporting
events, museums, and libraries.
DO switch the ringer volume
off to vibrate in restaurants. No one likes to hear Fur Elise
in
the middle of their chicken soufflé.
DO utilize text messaging
in public whenever possible. Switch the
incoming
message’s sound to vibrate and everyone will be happy.
DON’T ever leave the ringer
on during class!!! To avoid the phone from beeping just
turn
it off. Don’t “be that girl” who never
turns her phone off during class.
Note: When someone’s phone does go off in class,
check to make sure
your phone will not interrupt then entire class also.
DON’T have a conversation
while ordering at the drive-thru, or at places where it
requires
complete attention, such as Subway or Quizno’s. Certain places post signs stating they
will not even take your order if you’re on the phone.
DON’T answer the phone on a
date even if you are disinterested. This is the ultimate faux
pas
and frankly, very rude.
DON’T try to dial numbers
while switching lanes during rush-hour traffic on the freeway.
This
is the formula for an accident.
