For our biannual visit to Granada we always try to have lunch at the Rincón. It was touch and go this spring because we couldn't reach anyone at the restaurant. Finally a friend-- the same Dr. who sewed up Alvorada, our student in the fall of 2001 after a nasty fall-- offered to walk to the Plaza and see if he could come up with a number. He did better than that, he made our reservation and then returned there for dinner with friends just to check it out. Just reopened two weeks ago under new management, this little spot on the Plaza San Miguel Bajo is perfect for our group lunch and with the expanded dining room facilities, it can now accomodate us indoors if need be (unfortunately, this was the case: it drizzled all day for the opening of La Cruz). The new manager, Mohamad, and his wife Isabel González, a former regular client and long time friend of Pepe, the owner, couldn't be more accomodating. The food was fantastic, as usual, but even more interesting this time since the menu now includes several really fantastic Middle Eastern dishes in addition to the traditional fare we've been enjoying there for the last 7 years (carne a la rondeña, pollo al ajillo, calamares, berenjena con miel, entre otros).
