{"id":878,"date":"2017-08-25T23:19:47","date_gmt":"2017-08-25T23:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/paubin\/wordpress\/?p=878"},"modified":"2017-08-25T23:19:47","modified_gmt":"2017-08-25T23:19:47","slug":"dr-aubin-receives-va-grant-to-study-ankle-arthritis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/paubin\/wordpress\/archives\/878","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Aubin receives VA grant to study ankle arthritis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Aubin received funding to carry out a three year study to evaluate conservative treatments for ankle osteoarthritis. \u00a0Dr. Aubin&#8217;s team will be investigating two types of devices (a rocker bottom\u00a0shoe and an ankle-foot orthosis) which may relieve pain and increase mobility in patients with ankle arthritis. They\u00a0plan to collect biplane fluoroscopy data from subjects with ankle OA and healthy control subjects without OA, while they walk wearing these devices. Subject will also be monitored while they wear these devices for four months.\u00a0By measuring motion, pain and step count, they will\u00a0determine how these devices improve function and reduce pain in patients with ankle OA. Treating patients conservatively (as opposed to surgically), reduces medical cost, recovery time and the risk to the patient.
