Physics Lab as Exploration

I’ve been reworking some of my intro physics labs so that they are simpler and more straightforward. Personally, I feel pretty strongly that the two main types of physics lab activity – exploration and verification – are both important to a student’s education. I want to include more exploratory activities in my classes (perhaps instead of / alongside the UW tutorials), but have been jumping back and forth about how to do it. Here’s a great example of one instructor who’s put together some exploratory lab activities…. I think I’m going to use some of these!

I think you are right and he is right. Instructors never mind providing even single word abut the importance of labs and experiments. They just jump into experiment # 1 !!! Physicist are tough ! aren’t they?
