Cheating and Plagiarism
Cheating and
plagiarism are on the rise in college education because of the enormous amounts
of information available in digital form.
However, because the opportunity exists, there is no excuse for it. Intentional, re-occurring, woeful, and/or
substantial cheating and plagiarism can be grounds for dismissal from the UW. The UW does have a specific policy about
this.
See http://depts.washington.edu/grading/issue1/honesty.htm
The
"bottom-line" here, is that a student should clearly identify what is
being "copied and place in quotations if a sentence" or indent an entire
paragraph, and specifically cite your source for that information. One can copy
diagrams, but you must cite your source.
If someone publishes (turn in for credit is a form of publishing) more
than one paragraph or a single diagram then you should get clearance from the
publisher holding copyright.
The
Political Science Department provides the following further resource:

Write
thoughtfully and wisely, always giving credit where credit is due.
This makes
you a better scholar – and impresses your instructors and friends.
