Nancy Gershenfeld brings over 20 years experience in the information industry to the iSchool, where she joined the faculty in 2001.

At the Microsoft Corporation, she managed a wide variety of corporate library and information functions including library operations, business operations and systems development. She participated in the development of a number of landmark library and information applications, including the very first graphical interface for a library catalog.

Prior to Microsoft, Nancy managed database administration for a Seattle law firm's automated litigation support unit, helping to design, build and maintain case document and testimony databases. In New York, Nancy was the online coordinator for the research firm FIND/SVP, where she designed and implemented an in-house online search training program for information specialists. At FIND, she specialized in demographic and consumer marketing research.

Nancy holds a B.A. in History from the University of Maryland (1979) and an M.L.S. from the University of Washington (1991). Her teaching and mentoring focus on management issues, and the special library and other non-traditional information environments. She teaches in the areas of management, information resources and services.  Nancy also supervises students engaged in directed fieldwork and masters capstone projects.
