Vocabularies (SCVs), also known as "Controlled
Clinical Terminologies," are coding systems that allow patient information to be stored in a way that allows computers to recognize and manipulate that information. The ideal SCV would be intuitive, never ambiguous, comprehensive, detailed, flexible, and always current with regard to progress in medical knowledge. Not surprisingly, it hasn't been invented yet. But the SCV's that are in use play very important roles, like making possible Automated Clinical Decision Support (see the EHR section for more on that) Click HERE for an useful reference page on SCVs. |
