| The "flip side"
to the concept of Electronic Health Records is to give patients themselves the ability to record and access information about their own health electronically, e.g. through a web-based application. Such a patient-controlled medical record has been termed a "Personal Health Record" (PHR). This is advancing rapidly as a separate development from EHRs. Ideally, I believe PHRs and EHRs ought to be made capable of exchanging data and, eventually, to merge seamlessly, facilitating electronic communication between patient and physician.
