Personal Health Records
The "flip side" to the concept of Electronic Health Records is to give patients
themselves the ability to record and access information about their own health
electronically, e.g. through a web-based application. Such a patient-controlled
medical record has been termed a "Personal Health Record" (PHR). This
is advancing rapidly as a separate development from EHRs. Ideally, I believe
PHRs and EHRs ought to be made capable of exchanging data and,
eventually, to merge seamlessly, facilitating electronic communication
between patient and physician.
