THE NEUROTIC BRIDE  TALE - Chapter 2

After a long recovery from my attempt at "going postal" I was ready and eager to hit the wedding planning pavement.  A recent purchase of tennis shoes was going to help me and provide comfort while doing so.

I started to plan our event with a September 97 date in mind, we booked the ceremony site, spoke with the reception site and was ready to say, "yes, September 13th will be our day".  Then I started hearing "voices".

"No, perhaps an August date would be better," explained the mysterious voice. I must be going out of my mind, why would I want to change the date, I've had enough trouble finding this one.  The voice said again "August is a better month, the Farmer's Almanac predicts good weather". I knew the moment I picked up the phone to start arranging an August date that I must be nuts!

The great-switch-the-date began.  The ceremony site all booked up.  The reception could only offer the 16th of August.  I yelled, "hold that date" as if I was trading stock at the Exchange.  Think, think, what can I do....can I change the ceremony site?  Frantically I called the the Seattle Parks & Recreation again...there's got to be something.  One thing about me is, when I get my mind set on something...well that's another story.

So I called the Parks place, I spoke to a woman named August (how ironic).  August has a pleasant voice, very kind and probably takes Valium to put up with brides like me!  August is a difficult person to get a hold of.  I start leaving voice mail messages for her on Sunday evening around 7pm.  I call again at 8am...9am...and finally reach her around 10am on Monday.  I explain my situation and boldly state, "can you call the "other bride" and see if she is really going to use the park that day?"  August explains she will call and ask, tells me to call her back in a couple of days.  A few days pass, I call, again at my aggressive phone schedule.  "August, have you heard anything yet?" "No," she said.  Silence...more silence. I politely say thank you and hang up.   Few moments pass and I call her back, "can I ask the "other bride" if she would be willing to share the park with us?"  August explains, that she cannot do that but if I write a letter she would forward it to the "other bride".  I then convince my co-worker, she must write this letter for me because I am too emotional and may end up saying, "Look you're gonna give me this park space or Guido will pay you a visit."  So after threatening bodily harm to my co-worker, she agreed to write it.

I waited and waited and waited. I must have asked everyone I knew "if you got a letter from a bride requesting this and that would you ignore the letter or would you call the person back?"  Everyone polled said they would call back.  So I waited and waited and waited.  NOTHING.  I figured August , the park's person, never sent the letter.  So I conceded.  I will announce our marriage for September 13th.

Well, she called. Yes the "other bride" called.  Her name is Rose (how ironic).  She just got my letter that afternoon, the same afternoon in which I sent email around the world to announce our date.  She called.  Shock is what I felt. Pure shock.
