For symptomatic patients with WPW syndrome, catheter ablation is recommended for eliminating accessory pathways.
- 72 pts 13-35yo with asymptomatic WPW but inducible arrhythmias on electrophysiologic testing randomized to RF ablation of accessory pathways or no ablation; over median 27mo f/u, arrhythmic events occurred in 5% of treated and 60% of untreated pts, but among the latter, only 1 had a cardiac arrest (NEJM 349:1803, 2003--JW)
