INTESTINAL MALROTATION
Nl. rotation of gut occurs in 6-8th week of gestation, as
gut moves inf. into abdomen
Prevents with vague sx, often in 1st mo. of
life--distention, abd. pain, vom
Specific types:
- Ladd's bands--cecum in RUQ; bands from cecum to
lat. perit. wall or liver; cross & can
obstruct duodenum
- Volvulus (serious emergency)--occurs in 1/3 kids
with malrotation
- Duodenojejunal adhesions--form because of
abnormal folding of small intestine; can cause
obstruction
