ACUTE BRONCHITIS

• Antibiotics have shown mixed results in treating acute bronchitis
• In a randomized trial of 468 adults with acute bronchitis of < 2d duration treated with Pelargonium sidoides (aka "kalwerbossie" or "Rabassam") 30 drops TID x 7d vs. placebo, bronchitis sx scores were sig. lower in the active-tx group at 3d and 7d; active-tx group also returned to work sig. earlier.  44% of the active-tx group and 13% of active-tx group dropped out of the study (Phytomedicine 10 (suppl 4):7, 2004--AFP)
