Dido and Æneas in Performing Arts
Dido and
Æneas, the opera: The music for this opera was written in the
17th century by the famous baroque composer, Henry Purcell. The libretto
was written by Nahum Tate, who is famous for writing the "happy ending" of
Shakespeare's King Lear. Sound coming soon!
Did you know that there is also a ballet, Dido and
Æneas, choreographed by Mark Morris and performed by his
troupe?
Still working on what music they are using and if it is related to
the opera.
Reception of Chaucer
The New Chaucer Society provides
a forum for teachers and scholars of Geoffrey Chaucer and his age. Of
particular interest to textual studies students is the biennial congress,
next year in London. If London in 2000 is not in your plans, you can
participate in the inaugural
e-seminars.
Luminarium's Anthology of
Middle English Literature includes works by Chaucer, Kemp, and
Mallory, as well as so some limited links to a selection of medieval plays
and lyrics.
Fordham's University's Byzantine & Medieval
Studies site has extensive links to online sources for Middle English
texts and images, as well as links to general webguides for Medieval
Studies.
