Here are some places to potentially find some topics.  Above all, follow the guidelines in your textbook on pages 66-68.  However, here are some places to prompt your thinking about what is currently being proposed and debated:

ASUW pending legislation: http://senate.asuw.org/legislation/viewleglist.cgi?view=active

The City of Seattle

The State Legislature:  http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx (you can find your legislator and see what s/he is currently working on ).

The Governor's page: http://www.governor.wa.gov/priorities/default.asp (this is list of her current legislative priorities)

What's currently happening on the floor of the House of Representatives: http://clerk.house.gov/floorsummary/floor.html

Pending legislation in the Senate: http://www.senate.gov/

Policies supported by the President: http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/

Presidential candidates: McCain and Obama

Also, the Seattle Times and the New York Times are often useful for triggering a good topic (see the editorial pages especially)
