IMPROMPTU TOPICS

Spring 2008

These are the impromptu thesis statements that you will draw from for this quarter.  Currently, these are simply listed in alphabetical order.  The slips of paper you will draw are paired up with one university related thesis statement and one non-university related thesis statement. 

 

  • All U.S. public schools should teach comprehensive sex education.
  • All UW classes should be graded on a curve.
  • All UW classes should be videotaped and made available to students.
  • All UW majors should be open so students don't have to apply to a major.
  • Bicyclists should not be allowed to ride on Seattle city streets
  • King County should offer free public transportation.
  • Printing at UW libraries should be free.
  • Registration to COM 220 should not be restricted to sophomores during period I.
  • Speed limits on major highways should be abolished
  • Student athletes at UW should not be given class registration priority.
  • The city of Seattle should build a subway system
  • The city of Seattle should increase the number of “red light cameras”
  • The city of Seattle should prohibit registered sex offenders from living within one mile of college campuses.
  • The Department of Transportation should build a new highway through Seattle
  • The drinking age should be lowered to 18
  • The electoral college should be abolished
  • The FCC’s power to control media should be restricted
  • The I-5 should be expanded to handle more traffic
  • The IMA should be open 24 hours a day.
  • The State of Washington should require all public school students to wear school uniforms to school.
  • The U.S. government should ban all genetically modified foods.
  • The U.S. government should ban the sale of all automatic firearms.
  • The U.S. government should offer discounted gas prices to drivers of hybrid vehicles.
  • The U.S. government should require all persons over the age of 65 to pass yearly driving tests in order to retain their licenses.
  • The U.S. government should require that every U.S. citizen serve 2 years in the military.
