Lately I’ve been playing sequels and franchise games and I’ve seen that many of them just don’t innovate on their original material. This leads to some disappointment because I’m not as impressed with the newer games. This is definitely not the case with Super Mario Galaxy. The developers have shown again that when it comes to a Mario game, only the best will do. They’ve move 3D Mario games almost into another dimension. You’re no longer always sure that down is down since you are in outer space and traveling between different planets which all float around in zero g. This makes for some great platforming. They also didn’t try to cramp in gimmicky Wii controls. The Wiimote is used for some appropriate functions like collecting star-bits and shaking it to attack. This never made me feel like I missed a jump or took a cheap shot due to unreliable controls. This game gets an editor’s choice award because it is great.
