This game is kind of weird because it isn't continuous like most other first person shooters. You go around performing missions in different time periods as you try to stop the timesplitters from destroying the world. The problem with this setup is that ever few levels, it feels like you're starting from scratch since you start a new time period with new weapons and locations. The game just jumps around too much for its own good and you never actually get into it before have to start something new.
