This year's foot race was one for the record books. The format this year was part orienteering, part
foot race, and part bike race. It started with Dad blindfolding us, throwing us in the car, and driving us
to an undisclosed location on the Island.
Then, we each recieved instructions about two checkpoints we needed to reach. The first checkpoint was the post
office which we all ran to. After getting to the post office, we needed to go back to the old East Mercer Way house.
It was during this leg that the race was decided. We all took different routes to get there and some were more efficient than
others.
When we reached the East Mercer house, Dad and Mom were waiting for us with bikes which we then rode back home. The
course map and each person's routes is shown below. Chris' route is shown in green, Jon is in orange, and Tim is in blue.
Sections where we all ran the same path are shown in red.
As can be seen, Jon and Tim took much more efficient routes. As a result, Jon won his first foot race this year.
That means it is all tied up with one victory a piece. It looks like next year's race will have some fierce competition.
