PHNUTR-L

Description

PHNUTR-L@u.washington.edu - Public Health Nutrition Discussion and Information Group

PHNUTR-L is an open, unmoderated discussion list designed to provide discussion and exchange of information among professionals who provide public health nutrition services, and other interested parties.  The practice of public health nutrition at the community, state and federal levels is as diverse as the populations served.  The issues are complex and in a constant state of change, influenced by enormous changes in the science of nutrition; behavioral sciences; health care systems reform; education systems; social and welfare reforms; demographic trends; and economic swings. This list will encourage productive and informative dialogue on any of these issues, addressing specific topics such as:
PREVENTIVE AND PRIMARY NUTRITION SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY (and the SYSTEMS/PROGRAMS that support these services):  perinatal nutrition; breastfeeding; child nutrition; children with special health care needs;
adolescent nutrition; women's health; chronic disease prevention and health promotion; and aging.  PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITION CORE FUNCTIONS: data and other analytical tools for community needs assessment,
surveillance, and monitoring; program and policy development; and assurance through quality assurance, training, collaborating among programs, provision of individual or population based services, etc. INTEGRATING NUTRITION INTO PUBLIC HEALTH AND OTHER HEALTH RELATED SYSTEMS: role of nutrition in community systems development for specific population groups (e.g., migrant health; minority health;  children with special health care needs); development of nutrition in managed care
systems; relationships and future of existing programs such as WIC, School Breakfast and Lunch Programs; Child and Adult Care Feeding Programs; CDC initiatives; AIDS projects; cancer prevention; diabetes programs; feeding programs for the elderly; etc.  You are invited to join us in learning and sharing to improve the nutritional health of our communities!

PHNUTR-L will accept announcements of conferences as long as they are relevant to the topics listed above. Try to keep these brief. PHNUTR-L does not accept advertisements and/or product announcements from publishers, producers of software, formula makers or specialty foods producers, etc. "Position wanted" postings are also not accepted,
but announcements of available public health nutrition jobs are welcome.
