Opening a New Access 97 Database

Click on the Access open file button (Access open program) icon on your Office bar or select Start | Programs | Microsoft Access

After Access loads, the following screen appears:

 Open Database screen

We will be selecting the Blank Database since we want to design our own database and put it where we want it on our A:\ (floppy) drive.

If we had selected Database Wizard, we would have created a database and saved it in the subdirectory of choice. The Wizard would have started automatically and proceeded through a series of steps which would have created the database complete with tables, forms, queries and reports. Please note that this wizard takes available databases and generates them.

The File New Database dialog box appears.

We are going to create our database (serials.mdb) on the A:\ drive (or on whichever of your drives and subdirectories you choose). Click on the Create button.
Access Database window

You now have a database ready for adding tables, forms, queries and reports.

Now the fun begins.
